Brightcove Drops Free Video Offering

by Media Bullseye Staff on November 4, 2008

Video hosting provider Brightcove notified customers today that it will be discontinuing its free offering effective December 17, 2008. The company will steer existing free users to its pay service. In addition, Brightcove.tv will be shuttered, leaving clients to promote video content independently.

In the notification email, Adam Berrey, Brightcove’s Senior Vice President of Marketing & Strategy, wrote that “we made the decision to focus all of our resources on the Brightcove platform business, which has proven to be very successful, with hundreds of active, paying customers worldwide.”

Existing customers of the free service need to contact Brightcove to get a price quote.
